2014 Tennis Instructor Course Update
There are still 2 Instructor courses remaining on the 2014 schedule. As of now, both still have availability so click here to get all of the course details.In the last news release, we had mentioned we were working on adding a November Instructor course. Those details have now been finalized. This course will take place on November 14-16, 21-23 at the Rexall Centre (York U) in Toronto. Candidates need to be turning at least 16 years of age (or older) within one year of the course completion date and have a play level of at least a 3.0. Course size is limited so call today to avoid disappointment as courses can fill quickly!
The Champions U9 is Back for 2014!
This year there will be one main event held at the Rexall Centre from November 7 - 9. The U9 Championships will be open to all U9 players who are Ontario residents and members of OTA member clubs. The program vision is to encourage top level coaches to nurture and develop young players to prepare them for a premier U9 Championship event. The coaches responsible for developing the Champions of this event will be provided supplemental funding support to continue their outstanding work with their U9 athlete.

U16 and U18 Nationals Completed – U12 and U14 Underway
The U16 and U18 Junior National Championships are in the books for 2014. In the Boys Under 16, Jack Mingjie Lin (ON) defeated Alexis Galarneau (PQ) 2-6, 6-0, 6-1. The Girls U16 title was won by Katarina Kopcalic (ON) defeated Brindtha Ramasamy, (ON) 6-2, 6-1. The Boys U18 title went to Harrison Scott (AB), 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 over David Volfson (ON). The Girls U18 Champ is Charlotte Robillard-Millette (PQ), a 6-4, 6-4 winner over Vanessa Wong, (ON). The U12 and U14 events are underway. 2014 Professional Tennis Registry 11-17 Workshop - September 17-18
The Professional Tennis Registry, (PTR) is offering a workshop September 17-18 at the Wanless Park Tennis Centre in Toronto.
Course Overview
This workshop educates coaches on how to create an environment in which young people can play and enjoytennis. The workshop includes communication and organization skills suitable for different ages in both group and individual lessons. The workshop also covers structure and content of lessons, how to develop leadership skills in young people and how to run successful camps. Appropriate competition for every player in the age group is also covered. PTR is the only tennis teaching organization currently providing certification to coach 1 to 17 year olds.

To register for this event as a TPA member call the PTR at 800-421-6289 and ask for Paige, Will or Helma. Ensure you mention you are a TPA member! Cost of the workshop will be $120 USD plus tax for TPA member, a savings of $117 USD!
Please Note: TPA members will not be able to test for PTR certification unless registered as a new member of the PTR for an additional cost.
Doubles Tennis Challenge at London Hunt Club – Aug. 29-31
The Oliver & Associates Doubles Tennis Challenge sponsored in part by Dalmar Audi Motors Ltd. will take place August 29-31 at the London Hunt and Country Club in London, Ontario. Events are Men’s, Women’s and Mixed Doubles – 2 Club Level flights with prizes, an Open flight with consolation, an O45 with consolation and an Open Mixed – 2 flights. The entry fee is $45 per person – includes Friday evening wine and cheese, (cash bar), Saturday evening dinner, prizes and tennis balls. Entry deadline is August 27.
